Dee-Dub's Dubious Picks: Day 8

Another bad day Down Under for Dee-Dub's Dubious Picks. Kohlschreiber was obviously worn out after battling Roddick the day before and lost a tough one to a guy who looks more like an alien from Star Trek than a pro tennis player. And it turns out my first instincts were right in the Battle of Russians -- Youzhny dusted off Davydenko easily. Too bad I talked myself out of it and ate the chalk. Luckily I bet the bank on Serena. She destroyed Vaidisova as the young Russian seemed preoccupied with checking herself out on the big screen in Vodafone Arena.

So that's the third straight losing day for my picks. But I just gotta shake it off and keep on betting while there's still money in the bank. I'll keep it brief today because I have football to watch. I'm taking Cilic (+125) to upset a tired Blake with a small bet and I'm going to go big on Justine Henin (-189) to roll over Sharapova. I feel pretty good about these plays, but then again, what do I know?

But more importantly, I like the Patriots -14 and the Packers -7.

Love the blog! Enjoy your tennis selections, however going against you with Blake. He has seemed to turn the corner and really needs this match. With you on the NFL Selections. I think Green Bay will win big!

Thanks, Ian. I can understand why you might like Blake after his comeback of FatJohnny but I learned from Kohlschreiber that those kind of matches can take a toll. But going against my picks is probably the wise move at this point. Big ups.

Whats your feeling on Ferrer-Ferrero match? I'm leaning on Ferrer but was wondering your thoughts. Thanks. Where you from? I'm in Hoboken, New Jersey---Ian

I didn't include that match because I didn't see the odds at first. I really like Ferrer in that one. He finished really strong last season and I think he has a Federer-type all-around game. He's tough to beat and I think J.C.F. is going to get run off the court. -200 is a great price, I think.

You must be happy with the Giants if you're from New Jersey. I'm in Canada on the east coast. Place called Halifax.

Yeah, i agree with Ferrer...I like his game alot. Im a big Giant fan and happy they won although I bet Packers today like an idiot. Need to win these tennis matches, bad day betting Football. Blake looks good so far. Cilic seems to be struggling with the wind. I took Blake, Ferrer and taking a shot with Hewitt later. Think he has any chance????

I guess you were right about the Blake pick. I thought he'd be spent after the Grosjean match. Didn't see the match, but seemed pretty one-sided. I got my fingers crossed for Henin now. If she loses I'll be eating bologna and Kraft Dinner for the rest of the month...

Also thinking about going big on Serena (-350) vs. Janko. Also considering a smaller bet on Ivano (+150) vs Venus. Thoughts?

Well, I ended up pretty well yesterday! Didnt take Hewitt as I didnt touch that match. I definitly agree with you on Serena as I think she will win quite convincingly although the line is higher than I expected. I think Sharapova will beat Henin in that match. She seems to be in better form so far. I watched Henin verse Schiavone and she really struggled in that match. Sharapova also should of beaten Henin at the year end tourney in Madrid. I think Sharapova as an underdog is a better bet personally.

Not sure whom I will take in the Venus-Ivanovic match as that is not till tomorrow. Leaning towards Venus but will not be surprised in Ivanovic wins. Also think i will take Ferrer to beat Djokovic tomorrow at +230. He is playing really well and like the price. Hope you are well, let me know your thoughts....

Ferrer over the Joker? Wow. That is bold. Djokovic was my pick to win the tourney so I'm obviously not going to go against him. Please don't let me talk you out of it because Ferrer is also in great form, but I'm taking Djoko there.

I'm also going to take Ivo but my dilema is when exactly to fade Federer. I know it sounds crazy but I think he's ready to fall. He got beaten a bunch of times late last year and he's been vulnerable in almost every match in Melbourne. I might just put a very small wager on Blake at +1000 just for shits and giggles. Go ahead, tell me I'm nuts...

Holy shitballs! I thought I saw Serena this morning at +350 and I just looked again and it's +450. That shit is bananas.

Ok, you are NUTS if u think Blake will beat Federer. I don't see anyone beating Federer except maybe Nadal, but I dont even think he will win. Federer just gets better as the tourney goes on. I would never bet against Federer. I think we are screwed with Serena. I did a big Parlay with Serena and Nadal....Pretty dumb bet.....Serena isnt moving well......

Laying 200 to win 270 on Sharapova...I know u like Henin....The Djokovic-Ferrer match should be real good. I like Ferrer in 5. We will see!!!! Do you have aim?

Oh my God. The last few days were pretty bad, but yesterday was an unmitigated DISASTER. Serena, Henin were both big bets for me. What the hell happened in the Serena match? I didn't see it, but I heard there was something strange going on.

And for the record, I really don't think Blake will beat Fed, I just think someone will in this tournament and I'm willing to put a little down at +1000 to test the theory.

God knows I could use a big win.
